Mon Nouvel Amour, Part Deux

Let’s face it, we all just want to be loved. Whether its a spouse, a boss, a secret admirer or 50+ French-Canadians we’ve never met before. We all just want to be loved. Well, I officially feel loved. Thanks to Nicolas’ article in La Presse Saturday, I will never have to buy my own Pomme Frites at a Trois-Rivieres Junior Hockey game again. Chicoutimi could be another story. I have been absolutely blown away by the incredible response from our friends to the north. From sweet Murielle, who sent me a beautiful note, all in French (a language unfortunately I do not speak), to my new buddy Martin, who just wanted to wish me luck and courage. The overwhelming message is very clear -- I am not alone. When Mylene tells me that her husband lost his job in 2009. Check. And he is 42. Check. And they’ve been together for 15 years. Check. I am reminded again that my story is one that connects with others. And then she says that I am now one of her favorites. I melted. Or h...

My Little Mitzvah

According to dictionary.com, the first definition of karma is: action, seen as bringing upon oneself inevitable results, good or bad, either in this life or in a reincarnation Based on that, I definitely believe in karma. I wouldn’t say that I spend a whole lot of time thinking or worrying about it, but I definitely try to do what’s right, believing that in the end, the good people win and the bad people don’t. That theory has been tested, oh, about nine million times since I was forced out of work nearly 15 months ago. Why are the people who did this still working, while so many of us are not? What kind of karma is that? Well, the third definition of our word of the day, is: fate; destiny I guess, there’s still time for the good guys to win. This morning, as my wife left for school, she asked if I would be able to make a doctor’s appointment today for our six-year old, who had developed a rash. Considering the empty lines on my daily planner, I was excited to have so...

Turning The Page: A New Journey

I was dreamin' when I wrote this Forgive me if it goes astray   -- Prince, 1999 I’ve been writing A blog since the beginning of the year. I’ve been waiting to write THIS blog for nearly 23 months. I could wax poetic and build up the drama for the next 900 words, but instead let me cut to the chase: MY JOURNEY THROUGH UNEMPLOYMENT IS OVER. I have been offered a job and gladly accepted it. I will begin working again on Monday. And I can’t wait. I’ve been waiting for something to happen For a week or a month or a year   -- Jackson Browne, Lives in the Balance For nearly two years, I have been part of a growing group that is just looking for a chance. A group of people who have been dealt a bad hand through no fault of their own. A group of people who just want to start life all over again. A group of people who have been kind enough to embrace me as they connect with my story. Connect with my story from across my street and across the globe. I am so excited and so humbled to be...
