Good Job, Good Job, Good Job

If you’ve read more than one of my blogs, you probably have a pretty good idea that I love food, I love music and I really LOVE sports. Pick any restaurant, concert or game.  I’m in. Well, ALMOST any game. I realize I won’t be getting any votes for father of the year for this blog, especially in my own house, but here goes... Six-year old girls tee ball sucks. I mean, it really SUCKS! Don’t get me wrong, I would watch my kids perform in an opera if that is what they want to do. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t fall asleep. With three kids, my wife and I have moved into the zone defense when it comes to their activities. So far this year, I’ve made it to most tee ball practices, but this past Saturday was the first game I attended. OMG! First, can we talk about the rules. Everybody hits.  Every inning.  Nobody gets out.   Not that anybody on defense can actually make an out. The last batter in every inning gets to run all the bases after they hit the ball to give the ...

Papa Can You Hear Me?

Eight years ago I wished my dad a Happy Father’s Day. For the last time. Thirteen days later, he died of a massive heart attack. The good news is he suffered for about 15 seconds. The bad news is I have suffered for nearly eight years. And counting. Father’s Day is not the same without your father. He graduated from New York University after going to seven years of night school.   That gave him the opportunity to work during the day to bring in money for the two of them. He believed in working hard and wasn't afraid to do it. The result was an ama...

Sure, I have mentioned quite a bit here, but I have intentionally left out a lot of the details so that there wouldn’t be a trail of crumbs in my secret double life. But when you drop a little bombshell that you are about to interview for a “dream job” in the middle of the 15th paragraph of the 103rd blog, you really get to find out who is reading this thing. Well Thursday morning, I posted that blog. By lunch I had heard from a bunch of friends via phone, email and text messaging, sending their best wishes. Now deep down, I know a lot of friends have started reading the blog, which makes me feel great, but you still don’t know who is reading what and why. Or when for that matter. Case in point -- I showed up to my son’s baseball practice on Thursday afternoon and was greeted by the coach who said, “we need to talk.” My first thought was my son missed a bunt sign or something. As y...
