Today marks the beginning of my fourth week back at work. I hope they have a cake waiting for me. The job has been my opportunity to get back into the world of TV, creating and producing shows during a seven-week freelance gig. I’ve still got a month left and PLENTY of work to do. I suppose that’s the good news. The bad news is the best way to describe my mood these days is, miserable. I've been hired to produce a series of shows that involve a subject matter I know nothing about. But that’s not the problem. For those of your over 12, I have two critical questions: how did we live without the internet and how did we ever live without a cell phone? And now, the cell phones get the internet. WOW! Back in the olden days, say 1997, when we needed to reach someone in the middle of the day, how did we do it? When we needed to get a schedule for the local movie theatre, we had to sit through the nine-minute recorded message (and you BETTER be paying attention when your movie came up or it was another nine minute wait). When you’ve been out of the office for as long as I have -- approaching 14 months now -- it’s pretty easy to get excited when a possible job comes your way. It really doesn’t take very much. A phone call, an email... sometimes, even a billboard on the side of the road can give you some hope. Well, last weekend I got a major lead and this time, it wasn’t another mirage. This was the real deal. A former colleague of mine, who has helped me get work in the past, sent me an email asking if I would be interested in a job with him. Interested? Uh, in a word -- of course.
